Joseph James Stewart, 84 of Valdosta, died on Thursday, December 13, 2012, at his home, following a short illness. Born in Danbury, Connecticut on April 16, 1928, he was the son of the late Daniel and Katherine Doherty Stewart. An avid collector of model airplanes, Mr. Stewart had a lifelong passion with Aviation. He was a Navy Veteran and had worked as an electrician for Owens Illinois. He was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors are his daughter and son in law, Ellen and Tim Golden, Victoria and Joe Mack Giddens, Donna and John Dalton all of Valdosta; his son, Francis Stewart of Melbourne, Florida, grandchildren, Francis Michael and Savanna Stewart of Melbourne, Florida, Windy, Rebecca, Jason and Justin Giddens of Valdosta, Seth Golden of Valdosta, Jack, Stewart and J.D. Dalton of Valdosta; great grandchild, Paris Giddens of Valdosta and the mother of his children, Christine Stewart.
The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Sunday, December 16, 2012 from 2 – 4 p.m. A private interment at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens will be held at a later date.
