Joseph Ivey (Joe) Register, 82, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at South Georgia Medical Center following a period of declining health. Born on August 5, 1934 in Burgaw, North Carolina, the youngest of 16 children, to the late Joseph Edward and Eva Carolyn Gregory Register. Upon the death of his mother, he was raised by an older sister in Iowa Falls Iowa until his graduation. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Air Force and served his country honorably for over 20 years. He retired as Chief Master Sergeant and served in Viet Nam during 1969-1970. He was also the owner/partner of Register and Son Heating and Air. Mr. Register was an ordained Baptist minister and served as interim pastor in several churches in the area as well as serving as Assistant Pastor of Cherry Creek Baptist Church. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather who also loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He lived and walked his faith daily and exhibited a true servant's heart when dealing with members of the church or customers that he came in contact with every day.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sandy "Kitten" Register; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Kathy Register, and a grandson, Zach Register all of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 15 siblings.
Services for Joseph Ivey (Joe) Register will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2017 at Cherry Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Glen Gray officiating. The burial will follow in the Cherry Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 11 a.m. until service time at 12:30 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donation may be made to The Haven, The Pregnancy Support Center or a charity of one's choice.
