Joseph Gombas, Jr.

Joseph Gombas, Jr., 77, of Valdosta died Monday, June 18, 2007 at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. He was born in Linden, New Jersey to the late Joseph and Judith Gombas and was a graduate of Linden High School in Linden, NJ. He was preceded in death by his brother, Martin Gombas and his sister, Rose Gombas. Mr. Gombas was retired from both the Unites States Air Force and United States government Civil Service, totaling 50 years in service to our country. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Evelyn Gombas of Valdosta, six children, Judith Abbott of Prattville, Ala., Jody Sloan of Middleburg, Fla., Sharon (Bill) Little of Middleburg, Fla., Donna (Charles) Guess of Orange Park, Fla., Paula Buckingham of Orange Park, Fla. and David (Elizabeth) Gombas of Jacksonville, Fla., 14-grandchildren, Richard Abbott, Donald Abbott, Leah Craft, Richard Sloan, Traci Sloan, Amie Evans, Adam Evans, Ashley Evans, Jordan Guess, Ryan Guess, Kyle Buckingham, Lyndsay Buckingham, Alexandria Gombas and Benjamin Gombas and four great grandchildren, Brandon Evans, Isaiha Evans, Donald J. Abbott and Caitlyn Abbott, his sister, Mary (Andy) Mitko of Elizabeth, NJ., his sister in law and husband, Lea and Jim Parker of Green Cove Springs, Fla., brother in law, Edward Young of Lake City, Fla., sister in law, Margaret Young of Starke, Fla. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Friday, June 22, 2007 at St. the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father John O’Brien officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7-9pm at the funeral home.
