JOSEPH E. “ED” POWERS, 60, of Valdosta died Friday, December 10, 2004 at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born on October 5, 1944 in Jesup to the late Odum Joe and Mary Belle Elliott Powers and had lived in Valdosta for many years. Mr. Powers was retired from the United States Air Force and was currently employed with the Lowndes County Health Department as an health inspector.
Survivors include a son and daughter in law, David E. and Rhonda Powers of Waycross, a daughter and son in law, Tonia and Troy Allen of Valdosta, two grandchildren, Auburn Rain Yule and Joseph Patrick Allen both of Valdosta, sister and brother in law, Charlette and Joe T. Bargeron of Panama City, Fla., brother and sister in law, Roy and Jackie Chartier of Nashville, brother in law and sister in law, Ray and Barbara Curotte of Kahnawake Quebec Canada. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie “Gerry” Powers and a son, Joseph E. Powers, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Tuesday, December 14, 2004 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Pastor Jean Jack and Pastor Doug Griner officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens with full military honors at the graveside. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
