Joseph Denmark (Joe) Stevens

Joseph Denmark (Joe) Stevens, 22, of Atlanta, died suddenly on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at his residence. Joseph had lived in Atlanta for nearly 4 years. Born in Valdosta on May 25, 1993 he grew up in Valdosta and attended Valwood School for many years. He moved to Lowndes High School during his sophomore year and played on the Soccer team. Joseph has always loved being active and enjoying the outdoors. Before playing for the Vikings, he played travel league soccer for 6 years and was a very successful goalie throughout his career in soccer. Joseph was also a Boy Scout and reached the rank of Eagle Scout. Joseph moved to Atlanta soon after high school and briefly attended Georgia Highlands College but then entered the Hospitality industry. He discovered a love for cooking while working at Waffle House and he had plans to attend culinary school. His current outdoor time was spent with his beloved dog, Buffy touring parks in Atlanta and riding his skateboard all around the city. He was a member of First Christian Church in Valdosta.

Survivors include his father and mother, Jodie & Vickie Stevens of Valdosta, two sisters and a brother in law, Rebecca & Ian Fitch-Hundere of Austin, TX, and Emma Stevens of Atlanta; a niece and nephew, Oliver & Eloise Fitch-Hundere of Austin, TX; and his grandmother, Emma Stevens Murrah of Valdosta. Also surviving is a nephew Mickey Phagans Cortez of Norman Park and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by grandparents, Joseph Goulding Stevens, III, George G. Murrah, and Isaac & Marie West.

The funeral for Joseph will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 8, 2016 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Chris Michael will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church 1905 N. Patterson St. Valdosta GA, 31602, or the Boy Scouts of America 1841 Norman Drive, Valdosta, Ga 31602.
