November 29, 1913 — December 16, 2005

Joseph C. Baker, 92, of Lake Park, died suddenly on Friday, December 16, 2005, after a period of declining health. Born in Cairo, Georgia on November 29, 1913, he was a lifelong resident of Lowndes County and a retired signalman with the Southern Railroad System. Mr. Baker was a Mason for 52 years and member of the Adel Lodge. He was a member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church in Valdosta and a member of Live Embers.

Survivors are his daughter, Jo Ann McLeod of Valdosta, son and daughter in law, William G. (Bill) and Christine Baker of Lake Park; grandchildren, Kevin McLeod, Ben McLeod of Albany, Sean (Cherie) Baker of Panama City, Florida, Stacey (Greg) Davis of Thomasville; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Tillman Baker.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at 11 a.m. at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens with Reverend John Akers officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
