Jonnie Lee Moore Tomlinson, 88, of Mayday, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born June 21, 1924 in Echols County to the late David Bradwell "Dowse" Moore and Frances Quilla Griffin Moore, she remained a life-long Echols County resident.
Mrs. Tomlinson grew up in Echols County as did her husband, to whom she was married for almost 70 years. They wed on July 20, 1940, and worked side by side to make a home for themselves and their four children that would later be born. Mrs. Tomlinson derived great pleasure in being a mother and taking care of the needs of her family. Her children were her pride and joy. She will fondly be remembered for the many wonderful meals she prepared for her family and friends, canning vegetables, sewing, and her love of music. She had a gift for singing beautiful harmony and playing the guitar with her family that will never be forgotten. Her love of music was passed on to her children and many of her grandchildren. Her special times of enjoyment were Friday and Saturday nights listening to country music on RFD TV.
When Mrs. Tomlinson gave her life to God she was dedicated to sharing the Word with others. She and her husband enjoyed visiting nursing homes throughout their married life, giving support and encouragement to friends and acquaintances alike. During her walk with God, in her late 70's, having never written a line of poetry, God gave her the thoughts and words to pen several poems, one of which was recorded as a song and was a blessing to many who heard it.
Mrs. Tomlinson was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Tomlinson, one brother, Vernon Moore, and one sister, Alma Thigpen. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Derrell and Joyce Tomlinson of Mayday, Clyde and Kathryn Tomlinson of Valdosta, daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Gail and Lynn Hughes of Lake Park, and Anita and Hank Mayer of Lake Park; her grandchildren, Brian and Brandi McCann of Valdosta, Lori and Ryan Tenery of Mayday, Cheryl and Ben Wolf of Tallahassee, Florida, Tim Hughes of Lake Park, Angela Hughes of Lake Park, Abigail and Corey Davis of Lake Park, Kevin Mayer of Chicago, Illinois, and Jason and Beth Mayer of Hahira; great grandchildren, Noah and Kalee McCann, Chloe Tenery, Ethan Yawn, Cameron Davis and Baby Boy Davis, due in April 2013.
