Jon Karl Tanner, MSgt USAF (Ret.), 62, of Valdosta, passed away Friday, August 9, 2013, at the Langdale Hospice House.
He was born March 26, 1951 in Seattle, WA, a son of the Archie Tanner and Donna Loosen Tanner. Jon, a Gulf War Veteran, had honorably served in the U.S. Air Force for twenty-four years, retiring at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. Following his retirement he earned his Bachelors Degree in Education at Valdosta State University, and taught G.E.D. classes for the Florida Dept. of Corrections.
He loved everything V.S.U., and enjoyed swimming and amusement parks, especially roller coasters. Birthdays and Christmas were always very important to him, and he loved to spoil his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Tiw Tanner of Valdosta; three children, Michelle Cook and husband Don of Bellingham, WA, Shane Nemitz of Loomis, WA, and Baleacha Loomis and husband Travis of Clovis, NM; eight grandchildren, Bryce, Rowen, Tanisha, Amya, Alex Jon, Tre, Aurora and Kori; two sisters, Renee Reed and husband Paul of Port Angeles, WA, and Lesley Tanner of Layton, UT; and his step-father, Warren Nelson of Renton, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Tanner and Donna Nelson.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Tanner will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 2013, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in memory of Jon to V.S.U.
