Johnnie Mae Burkhalter, 86 of Milwaukee, WI and formerly of Valdosta, died on Thursday, May 25, 2006 at her residence. Born on January 28, 1920 in Lowndes County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Ancil and Carrie Viola Touchton Burkhalter. Ms. Burkhalter lived in Milwaukee most of her life working for General Motors/Delphi Corporation. She celebrated her 50th year in January 2006. She was of the Baptist faith.
Her surviving relatives are a sister, Dorothy Peters of Clyattville; sister-in-law, Edna Burkhalter of Valdosta and a number of nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by siblings Mildred Mallard, Ferrell Burkhalter, Corrine Luther, Grace Rykard, Ancil Burkhalter, Pauline Davies, Lottie Bailey, Calvin E. Burkhalter and Irma Nell Blevins.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2006 at the McLane Lakewood Chapel with Reverend Skip Van Nus officiating. Burial will follow at Swilley Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home.
