Johnnie G. Dasher

Johnnie G. Dasher, 88, of Dasher, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021 following a brief illness. He was born in Valdosta on April 4, 1932 to the late Johnnie Owen and Lilly Stallings Dasher. Johnnie grew up in Valdosta and graduated from Pine Grove High School in the late 1940’s. He worked at McCrory’s Department Store in Valdosta and joined the U.S. Army in the mid 1950’s. Following his service in the Army he returned to work at McCrory’s, and then sold insurance for Liberty National for several years before moving to Gainesville, FL to work at 1st National Bank for nearly a decade. Johnnie then started a collection agency in Gainesville, Sunshine State Recovery. He retired and moved back to Lowndes County in 1995. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, he attended Lake Park Church of Christ and most recently Dasher Church of Christ. A meticulous handyman he loved woodworking, taking care of his yard and doing projects. Johnny had a quick and feisty wit, much beloved by all who knew him.
Johnnie is survived by his wife of 69 years, Nan Dykes Dasher, of Dasher, son Gordon Dasher, of Swannanoa, NC, his son and daughter in law, Donald and Gail Dasher, of Newberry, FL, his daughter and son in law, Nancy and Richard Folsom, of Tallahassee, his grandchildren, Melissa (Ben) Adkins, of Swannanoa, NC, Jonathan (Asia) Dasher, of Trenton, FL, Zach (Jill) Dasher, of Black Mountain, NC, Wayne Dasher, of Melbourne, FL, Melanie (Trey) Harper, of Harlan, KY, Grant (Jessica) Dasher, of Montreat, NC, Cliff (Rachel) Folsom, of Houston, TX; seventeen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by infant daughter, Meloda Ann Dasher, a daughter in law, Jan Dasher, and four sisters.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2020 at 3pm at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Mr. Marvin Greene officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Georgia Christian School.
