John Vernon Sansberry, Sr., 84, of Valdosta died Monday, May 20, 2013 at Langdale Hospice House. He was born in Lowndes County on December 16, 1928 to the late Clarence and Lucille Johnson Sansberry. Mr. Sansberry was a retired truck driver, served in the United States Navy and was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church. He worked with David Hodges Cars and Trucks for almost twenty years. Mr. Sansberry was a devoted and loving husband, Daddy, Grandaddy and Great Granddaddy. He was a devoted Christian, loved to fish and was a very generous and hardworking man.
Mr. Sansberry is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Martha Sasser Sansberry of Valdosta, one daughter and son in law, Janie and Ronald Avery of Valdosta, one son, John V. (Johnny) Sansberry, Jr. of Lake Park, three grandchildren, US Navy IC1 Ron Avery, Jr. (June) of Norfolk, VA, Jennifer Avery of Valdosta and Lisa Okroi (USAF CMSgt Sam) of Fort Walton Beach, FL, seven great grandchildren, US Navy HN Ashley Avery of Beaufort, SC, Lauren Avery of Norfolk, VA, Hannah Black of Easley, SC, Austin Myers of Tifton, Alesa Bennet of Valdosta, Morgan Okroi and Samantha Okroi of Fort Walton Beach, FL, one sister and brother in law, Emma and Jimmy Moore of Valdosta, several nieces, nephews, cousins and his four legged baby, Wendy. He is preceded in death by three sisters, Carnell Bryant, Faye Tetrault and Mary Frank Horne and one brother, Wilbur (Bill) Sansbury.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 23, 2013 at two p. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Pastor Chip Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from five until seven p. m. at the funeral home.
