John Talley Tomlinson, 77 of Valdosta passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017. He was born in Valdosta, GA on April 11, 1940 to the late Talley and Frances Prine Tomlinson. He served in the U. S. Army 1958-1964. He was retired from BellSouth and had been a radio operator with the Georgia State Patrol. He was a member of Sardis Baptist Church. He was a Mason; a member and Past Master of St John the Baptist Lodge No. 184, Valdosta and a member of Alapaha Lodge No. 209, Statenville.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Barbara Walker Tomlinson of Valdosta; a son, Jeff Tomlinson, Pensacola, FL; a daughter and son-in-law, Mande & Jim Wolverton of Clemmons, NC; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Thomas Hamilton of Hawaii; sisters and brother-in-law, Geraldine Sutphin of Thomasville; Audrey and J. V. Dasher, Jr. of Valdosta; a granddaughter and grandson, Beatrix Grace Wolverton and Hayden Talley Wolverton of Clemmons, NC; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Gayle Jones Tomlinson; a brother, Byrd Elton Tomlinson; and his step-mother, Dorothy Havenkotte Tomlinson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2017 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Gary Woods will officiate. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 until 8 pm, at Carson McLane Funeral Home.
