John S. DeWitt, 76, of Barney died Saturday, November 1, 2014. He was born on August 26, 1938 in Loris, South Carolina to the late Gary and Ada DeWitt and had lived in Barney for many years. Mr. DeWitt was a farmer that enjoyed riding and viewing the fields. He loved playing cards, bird hunting, racing and feeding his ducks. He was a good provider for his family that he loved and enjoyed spending time with them. Mr. DeWitt was a Mason and Shriner.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mable E. DeWitt of Barney, his three children and their spouses, Lynn D. and Mike Abbott of Barney, Randy and Gina DeWitt of Morven, Stacey and Craig Williams of Barney, seven grandchildren and spouses, John Brandon and Melissa DeWitt, Nicole Abbott Sinclair and Beau Daniel Sinclair, Lacey and Matt Carter, John Stephen and Elisha Abbott, Mason DeWitt Williams, Kenzie Alexa Williams, Kelsie Brooke Williams, ten great grandchildren, Austin, Preston and Carson Sinclair, Kaden, Savanna, Anna Kathryn and Belle (arriving in December) Carter, Wyatt and Ginsie DeWitt, Ella Abbott, two sisters and brothers in law, Anne and Raymond Lomax of Jackson Springs, NC, Jeanette and Hap Carr of Clemson, SC, three brothers and one sister in law, Edward DeWitt of Ellerbee, NC, Phillip and Jean DeWitt of Cherry Lake, FL, Steve DeWitt of Ellerbee, NC. He was preceded in death by a brother, David DeWitt.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, November 4, 2014 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Luck officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery in Morven.
