JOHN RANDALL (J. R.) THORNTON, 58, of Hahira died Thursday, September 7, 2006 at his home. He was born on December 17, 1947 in Pierce County, Georgia to the late Louie Edward, Jr. and Martha Jane Strickland Thornton and had lived in Hahira for six years. Mr. Thornton had been a Deputy with the Pierce County Sheriffs Department and a truck driver. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Blackshear and enjoyed playing pool and had won many pool tournaments.
Survivors include his wife, Trudie Smith Thronton of Hahira, two sisters and a brother in law, Martha Lou and Robert Lawson of Waycross and Betty Jean Knighton of Albany, two brothers and sisters in law, Alton and Zoie Thornton of Blackshear and Danny and Deborah Thornton of Waycross, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, W. L. Anderson of Savannah and John Robert Thornton of Pierce County.
Funeral services will be held will at 7pm, Saturday, September 9, 2006 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Fender officiating.
