John R Dixon, Jr., 91 of Valdosta died Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Fellowship Home. He was born in Valdosta on August 22, 1925 to the late John R, Sr. and Carrie Jean Blackman Dixon and was a lifelong resident of Valdosta. Mr. Dixon was a member of the Northside Baptist Church and a retired letter carrier with the United States Postal Service. He was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Army Air Corp and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 13. He loved being around aviation and airplanes.
Survivors include his wife, Marcelle Dixon of Valdosta; his nieces, Wanda Sue Brantly, Ruth Carter, Beth Lambert, Cindy Suminski; his nephews, Tony Layton and Mike Layton; lifetime friends, Joe and Pat Mullis, Jay and Joyce Howe; he is loved and remembered by many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Curtis Dixon.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10am, Friday, March 17, 2017 at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens with Rev. Bob Willis officiating.
