John Perry Ramey

John Ramey, 79, of Valdosta, Georgia and formerly of Fresno, California, died at South Georgia Medical Center after an extended illness. Born in Cornelia, Georgia, on March 18, 1927 he was the son of the late Robert L. and Gene Green Ramey. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and had worked as a distributor for ARCO Oil Company. Mr. Ramey was a Baptist. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home and square dancing. Survivors are his daughters and a son, Paula Ramey Martinez of Valdosta, John Michael Ramey of Valdosta, Debbie Smyth of Des Moines, Iowa, Vicki Throope of Fresno, California, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, sister, Emily Ramey Novak of California, brother, Gene Ramey of California, special friend, Lena McGahee of Cornelia, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Ramey was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Ramey, a daughter, Darlene Curry, a son, Allen Throope , sisters, Elsie Ramey Griffin, Ruth Ramey and brother, Bobby Lee Ramey. Funeral services will be held in Cornelia, Georgia at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, with burial at Level Grove Cemetery in Habersham County.
