John O’Neal Grant, Jr., 54, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2011 in Maxton, North Carolina. He was born in Hahira on August 6, 1956 and was baptized at an early age in the Central Avenue Church of Christ. John attended schools both in the Valdosta City School System and in Dunedin, New Zealand. He was a veteran of the United States Army, a member of the 101st Airborne Division. He graduated from Christopher Newport College in Newport News, Virginia. John worked at Newport News Shipbuilding Company in Newport News for six years. John worked for Wabtec/Railroad Friction Products Company in Spartanburg, SC and Laurinburg, NC for twenty three years where he was the operations manager at the Laurinburg plant.
Survivors include his sons, James Grant of Charlotte, NC and William Grant of Fayetteville, NC, his parents, O’Neal and Faye Grant of Valdosta, sisters and brothers in law, Liz and John Klimko and Susie and Walter Altman all of Valdosta, a niece, Katie Klimko of Cambridge, MA, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Grant and Mr. and Mrs. Ike Allbritton, Sr., all of Valdosta.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Saturday, May 14, 2011 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. John Klimko officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.
