John O. Hensley

JOHN O. HENSLEY, 91, of Hahira died Monday, July 24, 2006 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on July 1, 1915 in Almance County, North Carolina to the late John F. and Ollie Horne Hensley and had lived in Hahira since 1938. Mr. Hensley was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served as a PT Instructor during World War II. He was the Agriculture Teacher at Hahira High School for many years, served as the County Agent for Lowndes County and was a retired mail carrier with the United States Post Office with forty three years of service. He attended the Hahira First Baptist Church where he was active in the Men’s Bible Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Helen Rountree Hensley of Hahira, a grandson and granddaughter in law, Trey and Lindsey Odom of Valdosta, three nieces, Trudy Hensley of Tampa, Fla., Susan Ackman of Washington, DC and Dolores Rogers of Macon. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Cathy Hensley McDonald, a brother, Clarence Hensley and a sister, Mrs. Tommy Allison.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, July 26, 2006 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. David Gordon officiating. Entombment will follow in the Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
