John M. Williams

John M. Williams, 84, of Hahira passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015 after a long illness. He was born on April 14, 1930 in Barney, GA to the late John Henry Williams and Lilla Belle Shaw Williams. He was a member of Barney First Baptist Church and served in the United States Air Force from 1951 until 1955. Mr. Williams had been a salesman for Sunbeam Bread Company and Keebler Cracker. He owned and operated several grocery stores including J & M Superette in Barney, Williams Thrifty Foods in Hahira, Hahira Foods, Hahira Ice and Meats and Williams and Sons Meat Company in Sparks, GA. Mr. Williams loved to sing, spend time with his family and he loved to bar b que.

He is survived by two daughters and one son in law, Kay and Stephen Bonner of Gordon, GA and Joan Hill of Adel, two sons and daughters in law, David and Karen Williams and Scotty and Angela Williams of Hahira, nine grandchildren, Jerry Courson (Crystal), Wendy Petitjean (Travis), Cindy Clark (Kevin), Westley Williams (Kaitlin), Eric Skinner, Travis Skinner (Amanda), Mike Bancroft, Kalee Williams and Carly Williams, six great grandchildren, Alyssa Skinner, Caleb Skinner, Parker Petitjean, Easton Petitjean, Maddie Rue Clark and Abigail Williams and one brother and sister in law, Ferrell and Elizabeth Williams of Avon Park, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Edna Mae Stalvey Williams, his son in law, June Hill, five brothers, Grady Williams, Jack Williams, Buren Williams, M. L. Williams and Howard Williams, two sisters, Doris Lewis and Helen Barnes.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 1, 2015 at two p. m. at Barney First Baptist Church with Reverend Keith Wise and Reverend Ike Jefferson officiating. He will be placed in the church at one p. m. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from six until eight p. m.
