John Levy "J.L." Bennett, 76, of Lake Park died Monday, December 19, 2011 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born in Adel on October 9, 1935 to the late Benjamin Roy and Myrtice Whittle Bennett and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Bennett was a member of the Friendship Primitive Baptist Church and enjoyed being outdoors. He loved to fish and work on automobiles. Mr. Bennett was a truck driver for Cowart and Cowart Construction and had worked at NAPA.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Terry of Valdosta, his children and their companions, Randell Allen Bennett and Jo Brannan of Stateville, April Giddens and Charles Smith of Valdosta, Brian Giddens and Patricia Dorminey of Lake Park, his grandchildren, John Allen Bennett of Lake Park, Jennifer Giddens of Moultrie, Jesse Vick of Quitman, Justin Vick of Lanier County, Jasmine Vick of Valdosta, Jonathan Giddens of North Carolina, Tiffany Mercer of Thomasville, four sisters and two brothers in law, Shelia and Russell Dorminey of Valdosta, Joan and Charles McCranie of Adel, Martha Ward of Valdosta and Virginia Flurry of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Myrtice Bennett, two brother, Larue Bennett and Lennis Bennett and one sister, Phyllis Friesen.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Wednesday, December 21, 2011 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Friendship Cemetery in Hahira.
