John Lankford Harper, 75, of Valdosta, died on February 12, 2006, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born in Irving County to the late James Oliver & Mary Monterey Harper, and formerly of Tifton, Mr. Harper had lived in this area for the past 50 years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, was of the Baptist faith, and had been a chef for most of his life and enjoyed spending time with his family. Mr. Harper also enjoyed fishing as much as possible and loved all sports.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Harper, of Valdosta, five daughters and sons in law, Wanda & Rocky Nelston, of Jacksonville, FL, Kathy & Mike Whittington of Tifton, Jackie & Larry Devane, and Connie & Floyd Sirmans, all of Valdosta, and Linda & Brad Brown of Lutz, FL; two sons and daughters in law, Robbie & Linda Harper of Roseville, CA, and Lloyd & Joy Dumas of Hahira. Also surviving are two sisters, Daphene J. Lewis and Martha Mullis, both of Tifton; two brothers, Franklin R. Harper of Jacksonville FL, Donald L. Harper of Albany; 22 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Harper is preceded in death by one brother, Charles C. Harper.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2006, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. George Ehling will officiate. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Hahira.
