John Lamar (J.L.) Sellars, 82, of Nashville, died on Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born in Valdosta on October 28, 1925, he was the son of the late J. L. Sr., and Sallie Mae Byrd Sellars. Mr. Sellars was a logger. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and a member of Hope Baptist Church in Nashville. He loved fishing, traveling, car racing and gardening.
Survivors are his wife, Lucile Sellars of Nashville; sons and a daughter-in-law, Dewayne and Sylvia Sellars of Conyers, Danny Truman of Brooks County; grandchildren, Jay Sellars, Tracey Fisher; step children, Gene (Becky) Nelms of Memphis, Tennessee, Gary (Susan) Nelms, Teresa (Bob) Miller of Nashville; special step daughter-in-law, Linda Nelms of Valdosta; 11 step grandchildren; great grandchild, Jacob Dalton Fisher; numerous step great grandchildren; sister, Louise DeLoach of Hahira; brothers and a sister-in-law, Raymond Sellars and Reverend Milton and Pat Sellars of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first and second wives, Alice Southerland and Irene Sellars, and a stepson, David Michael Nelms.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2007, at Hope Baptist Church at eleven a.m. Reverend Steve Pickern and Reverend Milton Sellars will officiate. Burial will follow at Cat Creek Cemetery in Lowndes County. Mr. Sellars will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service.
