John (Jack) Alvin Allen

John (Jack) Alvin Allen, 86, died on Monday, November 9, 2020 peacefully at home under hospice care. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, on April 19, 1934 to the late John Levita and Laura Moylan Allen. He graduated from Williamson Trade School with a degree in carpentry. He served in the U. S. Air Force and was stationed at Moody AFB where he met the love of his life Nancy Johnson. He was a Christian and had a servant’s heart. He was a volunteer first responder for the Narberth PA Fire and Ambulance Department. He was a volunteer dispatcher for the Valdosta Police Department, assisted with Habitat for Humanity and coached basketball for Valdosta Boys Club. He owned and operated Allen Paint and Wallcoverings for many years. After his retirement you would find him in his shop making sawdust. He loved woodworking and made toy trains, dump trucks, fire trucks, serving trays, picture frames, keepsake boxes, doll beds, and birdhouses. Many toys were given to Valdosta Police and Fire Department Toy Drives.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Johnson Allen; two sons Johnny (Possum) Allen and David Allen, both of Valdosta; four grandsons, Tanner Allen, of Jupiter, FL, Keaton Allen, Andrew Allen, and Daniel Allen, all of Valdosta; a special cousin Stephen (Carole) Moylan, of Deptford, NJ; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 2020 at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens with Dr. Gary Woods, of Northside Baptist Church, officiating. Visitation and reception will take place at Park Place, 108 W. Park Ave., Valdosta, GA, 31602, after the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 2263 Pineview Dr., Valdosta, GA 31602. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
