John J Langdale

John J Langdale Jr. died on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Fellowship Home. Born on February 20, 1927 in Council Georgia, he was the son of the late John J. Langdale Sr. and Rosalie Cornelius Langdale. John was educated in the Clinch County Schools, Georgia Military College and the University of Georgia where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Forestry in 1951. A veteran, John served in the Navy during the Second World War. Following his service, he returned to his native South Georgia serving as Vice President of the J.W. Langdale Company from 1951 to 1965 and then, after a move from Council to Valdosta, as Vice President of The Langdale Company from 1965-1996. Professionally, John served as chairman of the Clinch County Board of Education, as a member of the Georgia Forest Research Council and as a district supervisor with the Alapaha Soil and Water Conservation District. He was also a proud member of the Society of American Foresters for over sixty years. In addition, John was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, a member of the Kiwanis Club and a devoted fan of UGA football.

Survivors include his wife of forty-seven years, Virginia McDonald Langdale of Valdosta, his son and daughter-in-law, John J. (Jay) III and Jennifer Langdale of Eufaula, AL, his son Joseph P. (Joe) Langdale of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, his grandson Peter Alexander (Alex) Langdale and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister Rosalie Langdale Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend David Tart and Rev. Mac Weaver will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Ranch, 5671 Boys Ranch Road, Hahira, GA 31632 or the Mailbox Club, 404 Eager Road, Valdosta, GA 31602.
