John Harold Cooper, 80, of Morven, died Friday, August 11, 2006 at his home . He was born in Brooks County on November 23, 1925 to Rufus and Gussie Morrison Cooper. Mr. Cooper was a lifelong resident of Brooks County. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict during which he received the Purple Heart among other awards. He served sixteen years as a member/chairman of the Brooks County Board of Commissioners. He was a retired farmer and an active member of Morven Baptist Church and the Adult III Sunday School class. Mr. Cooper was a Mason and a Shriner.
Mr. Cooper is survived by his wife, Faustina Webb Cooper of Morven, one son and two daughters in law, Hal and Edna Cooper and Beth Cooper of Hahira, sister in law, Audrey Cooper of Morven, three grandsons, Ryan Cooper of Valdosta, Kaleb Cooper and John Cooper both of Hahira, two granddaughters and their husbands, Dusty and Eric Corbitt of Hahira and Jennifer and Aron Hartley of Douglas, one nephew and his wife, Jeff and Danita Cooper of Morven, one niece and her husband, Karen and Hank Mead of Lawrenceville. He is predeceased by his son, Ken Cooper and his brother, Morris Cooper.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 13, 2006 at two p. m. at the Morven Baptist Church with Reverend Jim Pitt and Reverend Charlie Scarbrough officiating. He will lie in state in the church for one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Campground Cemetery. The family will receive friends from five p. m. until seven p. m.
