John E. Baxter, 79, of Valdosta, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2010, at the Presbyterian Home, Quitman, after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 14, 1931 in Burlington, Iowa, a son of the late Charles and Thelma Holmes Baxter. Mr. Baxter was employed in the sign industry for many years. He loved woodworking, gardening and cooking, his grandchildren will fondly remember his "trail breakfast". He had a heart of gold, was a very giving person and never expected anything in return, and he had a very special place in his heart for animals.
Mr. Baxter was a member of Gateway Baptist Church and was known around town as the "Cross Man".
He is survived by his wife Anne Baxter of Valdosta; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Steve Rockefeller of Fruitland, FL; and three grandchildren, Nicholas, Lauren and Emily Rockefeller of Fruitland, FL. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Chuck Baxter.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Baxter will be held at 7:00 pm Monday, November 22, 2010, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Pastor Jack Seiverd officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to either the Pregnancy Support Center, 206 W.
