John Downing Savelle, Sr.

John Downing Savelle, Sr., 66, of Valdosta died Friday, October 10, 2014 at his residence. He was born on September 29, 1948 in Albany, GA to the late Morton Judson Savelle and Virginia Nell Downing Savelle. Mr. Savelle was a retired jeweler having owned and operated J. Savelle's Jewelers in Albany, GA. He was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, a fourth degree Knight of Columbus, a member of Albany Bass Club and worked with Wounded Warriors. Mr. Savelle graduated from Albany High School in 1966, attended GA Southwestern College in Americus, GA and Albany Jr. College. He was a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America.

He is survived by his wife, Loula Schierkolk Savelle of Valdosta, five children, Amy Savelle Bartilotti and her husband Richard Bartilotti of Richmond, VA, Joshua Burnette Savelle and his wife, Angela Haire Savelle of Albany, John Downing Savelle, Jr. and his wife, Ivy Mock Savelle of Albany, Brandi Jones of Perpignan, France and Kristin Michelle Jones of Valdosta, seven grandchildren, Shelby Augusta Bartilotti of South Bend, IN, Matthew Bentley Bartilotti of Richmond, VA, Trinity Jade Graham of Valdosta, Bentley Gray Savelle of Albany, Olivia Jeanne Cantrell of Valdosta, Collier McDaniel Savelle of Albany and Evan Paul Kugel-Jones of Perpignan, France, two brothers and sisters in law, Morton Judson Savelle III and Diane Savelle of Panama City, FL and Michael William Savelle and Joy Braswell Savelle of Byron, GA.

A memorial service will be held Monday, October 13, 2014 at eleven a. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Chris Michael officiating.
