John Dewey "JD" Cone, 75, of Ray City, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, after a lengthy illness. Born in Murphy, Georgia, he was the son of the late Dewey and Velma Sowell Cone. He worked in the 347th Civil Engineering Squadron at Moody Air Force Base, he was the recipient of numerous Civil Service Awards. He retired from Moody Air Force Base after 34 years. "JD" was a member of the Ray City United Methodist Church and he was active in local government, serving two terms as a City Council Member in Ray City. He had a strong passion to see the city grow!
Surviving are his daughters and sons in law, Lynn and Ricky Ford of Ray City, Lorrie and John Allchin of Nashville, Reverend Debbie Cone of Albany, Angela Cone of Ray City, Rhonda and Jim Brown of Nashville; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren with one more on the way. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Effie Mae Roberts, Rita Bennefield and Elizabeth Wallace.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at Ray City United Methodist Church at 4:00 p.m. Reverend Debbie Cone and Reverend Travis Bennefield will officiate. Burial will follow at New Ramah Cemetery in Ray City. Flowers will be accepted or memorials to the Partnership for Cancer Fund, 205 Woodrow Wilson Drive, Valdosta, GA 31602 or to the American Heart Association.
