Valdosta - John D. McCranie, 86, died Saturday, December 29, 2007 following a short illness after a period of declining health. Born in Mitchell County to the late Jackson Andrew and Sarah Hendrix McCranie, he was a retired machinist/welder for Crackin Good Bakery Company after 30 years of service. He worked hard all his life to provide for his family. He loved fishing and working in his yard. Mr. McCranie served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Jeanette Christie McCranie; two sons, Roger McCranie and Ashley McCranie; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Larry Lovingood; two sisters, Beatrice Rodgers and Mildred Weeks; brother and sister-in-law, Owen and Lyrice McCranie all of Valdosta; grandchildren, Derek (Beth) Lovingood of Tallahassee, Travis Lovingood, Bonnie Lynn (Lee) Crosby, Jennifer McCranie all of Valdosta; great-grandchildren, Baylee Adams, Kendall Crosby, Cameron Crosby and Gabriel John Paul Kerestan; step-grandchildren, Jeff Frazier of California and Judy DeLoach; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Arnold.
Services for Mr. John D. McCranie will be held on Monday, December 31, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Badley officiating. The burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, December 30, 2007 from 4-6 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
