John D. (Johnny) Hamby, 55, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, April 9, 2006 at South Georgia Medical Center after a sudden illness. Born on October 3, 1950 in Lowndes County, he was the son of Kathryn Morris Hamby and the late Alvin D. Hamby. He graduated from Lowndes County High School in 1968. Mr. Hamby was employed with Langeboard and was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.
Other survivors are his wife, Betty Gregory Hamby of Valdosta; his children and their spouses, William Hamby, Lucrecia Hughes both of Valdosta, Buddy Pitzing of Lake Park, Lonnie and Suzannah Pitzing of Valdosta, Rena Brantley of Lake Park, Alene and Joe Brady of Lake Park; sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy Wisenbaker of Valdosta, Patsy and Bobby Sutton of Palatka, FL, Dianne and Fred Wright of St. Augustine, FL, Joyce and Derrell Tomlinson of Mayday, Kathy and Wayne Stringer of Valdosta; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Betty Hamby of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Buck Coats, Cole Bowser, Keeley Pitzing, Taylor Pitzing, Chase Pitzing, Amanda Hughes, Chase Hughes, Lexy Homans, Chelsey Homans and a special mentor, Charlie Stewart.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at McLane Lakewood Chapel with Rev. Alton Hardee officiating. Burial will follow at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park.
