Joel R. Peters Iii

JOEL R. PETERS III, 59, of Valdosta, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, after complications from surgery. He was born on June 20, 1949 in Valdosta, the son of Joel R. Peters, Jr. and the late Audrey Elizabeth Jones Peters.

Joel graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Animal Science, and for over twenty-five years he was employed at Crackin' Good Bakery. He had previously been co-owner of Southern Barbeque Secrets, and most recently was employed at Martin's Famous Pastries.

He was a member of Central Avenue Church of Christ. He loved being with his family, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a gourmet cook.

In addition to his wife, Pam Arnold Peters, he is survived by two daughters, Victoria Marie Peters of Savannah and Claire Elizabeth Peters of Valdosta; his father, Joel R. Peters, Jr. of Valdosta; four sisters, Elizabeth Teasley and Rebecca Wisenbaker of Valdosta, Karen and husband Tom Nunnally of Morganton, and Ferres and husband Greg Bell of McDonough; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; a sister-in-law, Laura Hill of Adel; and a brother-in-law, Jaa Arnold and wife Cathy of Edison. In addition to his mother he was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Eva Claire Arnold of Edison.

Services will be held at 10 am Saturday, February 28, 2009 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. Bryan Jarvis and Rev. Willie Beasley officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 pm in Dickey Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening (Friday) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
