Joel M. "Joe" Barrett

Joel M. “Joe” Barrett, 70, of Lake Park stepped out of his boots and took a day off of work to take care of more important business, and that was to meet his Savior. Joe passed away at his residence, on May 8, 2006, surrounded by family, after a lengthy illness.

He was born on September 2, 1935, to the late Ruby Inez and Elan Barron Barrett. He was a native of Emanuel County for many years prior to moving to Lake Park where he made his home.

Survivors are his wife, Evelyn Barrett of Lake Park; two sons, Shawn Barker and Mike Lanier of St. Augustine, Florida; one daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Damien Pierce of Valdosta; two daughters, Sherman Barrett and Sunshine Barrett both of Lake Park; four grandchildren, Dresden Pierce, Katherine Pierce, Aaron Pierce and Derrick Pierce, and many friends and family members. Joe will be missed a great deal by all who knew him.

Per Mr. Barrett’s wishes, cremation will take place. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at 705 Habersham Road, Valdosta, Georgia, from 10:00 am until 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
