Joe Wetherington

Joe Wetherington, 85, of Valdosta, died at his home on Saturday, March 10, 2007. Born in Lowndes County, on July 6, 1921, he was the son of the late Lawson Samuel and Carrie Mae Brantley Wetherington. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Wetherington owned a Backhoe Operation Business. He loved to hunt and fish and “fish feared his name!” He was an avid gardener and enjoyed providing family and friends with fresh produce. He was a member of and loved Azalea City Church of Christ, and more recently he had attended Airport Church of Christ.

Survivors are his wife, of more than 60 years, Ella Wetherington of Valdosta; a son and daughter in law, Joey and Mary Kay Wetherington of Valdosta; grandson, Jamie and Stephanie Wetherington of Valdosta, great grandchildren, Joe, Ashliegh and Celeste; sisters, Sarah W. Noel, Lillian W. Dewey of Brooks County, brother and sister in law, Lee L. and Mary Ruth Wetherington of Brooks County, sister in law, Edwina Wetherington of Lake Park and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, James O. Wetherington and a sister, Mary Alice Wetherington.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Mr. Keith Olbricht and Mr. Jerry Herring will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6 -8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to Airport Church of Christ.
