Jody T. Hall, 67, passed this life to be with his Lord and Savior, on Sunday, January 5, 2020. He was surrounded by his beloved wife Lana, and a loving and compassionate medical team at Malcolm Randall VA Hospital in Gainesville, FL. He was born June 3, 1952 in Hahira, GA, the son of Harley Davidson Hall, Sr. and Juanita (Morey) Hall. He re-opened communication with his Lord and Savior in the last 20 years and depended on God’s guidance.
He is survived by his wife Lana (Holt) Hall, whom he called his soul mate and the love of his life; his children Harley T. (Michelle) Hall, Megan (Steve) Henry, Amanda (Zack) Owens, and his children by love Todd (Susan) Carnahan and Shari Carnahan; and his grandchildren Lindsay, Aidan, Addison, Jaden, Shelby, Sammy, Lelina, Patrick and Mary. Also surviving are his Brother, Harley Davidson (Teresa) Hall Jr., Sister Patricia (Tom) Drennen, Uncle Dan (Bobbie) Morey, nieces Charley, Heather and Carrie; several cousins and extended family members. He fussed at them all but loved each one dearly. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Brother Danny Hall and his only nephew Harley D. Hall, III. He is also survived by the mother of his children.
After graduating from LHS in 1971, Jody enlisted in the Air Force, serving our nation for twelve years. Jody spent his military career in Alaska, New Hampshire, Germany, North Dakota and D.C. He was a master carpenter and electrician and spent his whole life working with his hands. He loved his Vikings and never missed a game for many years, and was a member of the Touchdown Club. His higher education included technical classes after high school and what he affectionately called the “school of hard knocks and common sense,” which served him well through the years.
While living in Orlando, he had the opportunity to build and design sets in the movie industry. He was an expert set builder and special effects guru. He had a “MacGyver” mind and always came up with a way to make it work.
He met his wife Lana at a Community Theatre in Orlando and they married in 1996. In 2000 they had the opportunity to move back to Hahira and Lowndes County where they built a home on family land. He often said, “I spent the first part of my life trying to get away from home and the last part trying to get back”. He loved his home and down on the Steep Hill by the Little River. He would mow all day and come in to tell Lana “he had an idea” or “I have been thinking”. He never stopped dreaming.
Jody loved politics and gave his opinion openly and honestly quite often, but people loved his truthfulness. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a quick wit and always had a story or joke to tell. He had a passion for advancing the medical care of our veterans. He spent a great deal of time making things better for them by bending the ears of leaders in the local, state and Federal government. He even befriended the Director of Malcolm Randall VA hospital who used Jody’s knowledge and information to help vets get better care. He often confronted politicians to plead his case for veterans, which earned the respect of those he sometimes challenged.
He was a member of Hahira United Methodist Church, Rotary, Walk to Emmaus, Kairos Prison Ministry, Toastmasters, Honey Bee Festival Committee, The Republican Party, Hahira Historical Society, and Chamber of Commerce. He also was exceptionally proud to have served on the Lowndes County Planning Commission. Jody was blessed and humbled to be nominated as a member of the Leadership Lowndes 2019 class, but his declining health forced him to drop out before graduation. He also leaves his beloved dog, Sam.
His viewing will be on Thursday, January 9 between the hours of 6 and 8 PM at Martin/McLane Funeral Home, located at 401 S. Church Street, Hahira. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 10 at 2 PM in Hahira United Methodist Church located at 208 N. Church Street, Hahira.
