Joann Sells Powell

JoAnn Powell, 71, of Lake Park, died at her home after a lengthy illness on Friday, February 3, 2006. Daughter of the late Hazel Austin and Jesse E. Sells, she was born in Winder, Georgia on October 8, 1934. Mrs. Powell was a career mother and a member of the River of Life Family Worship Center. She had worked in retail sales and was a police officer with the City of Lake Park.

Survivors are her daughter, Hazel Elaine Kinchen of Lake Park; sons and daughters in law, Danny Lee and Debbie Powell of Lake Park, James Dennis and Connie Powell of Valdosta, George Andrew and Teresa Powell of Lake Park; a sister and brother in law, Helen and Murry Chance of Valdosta, brother and sister in law, James and Peggy Sells of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren and their spouses, Denise Dickerson, Cindy and Jeff Murrell of Lake Park, Larry and Jewell Dickerson of Macon, Christopher and April Dickerson of Augusta, Tonya and Eugene Tate of Newnan, Tina and Matt Malinberg of Greyson, Tami and Greg Hudson of Savannah, Roger and Amber Loggin , Niki and Nicole Loggin of Dahlonega, Pamela Powell, Michelle Powell of Covington, Tracy Skinner of Lawrenceville, Lisa Skinner of Covington, Lance McFarland of Carrollton, Athena Adams of Valdosta, Jessie D. Powell of Lake Park, Nicole and Adam Steel, Kristin and Dusty Edwards, Rebekah D. Powell, Terry A. and Tamantha Hines, Cameron D. and Nancy Hines all of Valdosta; and a special caregiver, Denise Dickerson. Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her husband, Emerson Dee Powell, a son, Michael Edward Powell, and a son in law, Benny Kinchen who was her caregiver until his passing.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 7, 2006, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home. Reverend Buddy Cherry and Reverend Dennis Powell will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lake Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lakewood on Sunday afternoon from 3 – 5 p.m.
