Jo Williams, 71, of Valdosta died Saturday, February 10, 2007 at her residence. She was born on September 27, 1935 in Pavo to the late Victor Clarence & Cleo Ernestine Baker Williams. Mrs. Williams is a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church where she was chairperson of the Monday Night Circle. She taught school for seventeen years in Georgia, Florida and Virginia before retiring in 1990 and moving back to Valdosta. She was an Army Wife between 1967and 1975, she was co-chair of the Red Hat Society and Queen Mother of the Sassy Scarletts. She received a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Valdosta State University.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Forrest H. Williams of Valdosta; sons & daughter in law, Earle(Chip) & Lorraine Engle of Chesapeake, VA, John B. Engle of Norfolk, VA; granddaughter, Ashley Engle, grandsons, Stephen Engle of Norfolk, VA, Christopher Engle of Bradenton, FL; brother and sister in law, Johnny M. & Lee Williams of Pavo; brother in law Tom Barnard; sister in law Anne Barnard of Valdosta. She was preceded in death by her sister, Victoria P. Atkinson.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Craig Rikard and the Rev. V. L. Daughtery officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 205 Woodrow Wilson Dr., Valdosta, GA 31620.
