Jimmy L. Veal

Jimmy L. Veal, 73, of Valdosta, died at his home on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Born in Anderson, South Carolina on December 30, 1937, he was the son of the late Herman and Bernice Veal. He spent his youth in Bowman, Georgia before joining the U.S. Army. Mr. Veal was a graduate of the McAllister Institute of Mortuary Science. He was a member of the Georgia Academy of Graduate Embalmers and was associated with the Carson McLane Funeral Home as a Funeral Director and Embalmer for over 47 years. A very loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather, his hobbies included genealogy and bottle collecting. Jimmy was a lover of animals and nature and he enjoyed time spent outdoors. He was a Baptist.

Survivors are his wife of 46 years, Shirley Kemp Veal of Valdosta, daughters, Lisa Veal of Valdosta and Susan Veal of Asheville, North Carolina; granddaughter, Sydney Royals of Valdosta; extended family, Harry Nadack, Jenny and Rick Gilbride and Larry and Bridgett Coody all of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry Veal and Ted Veal.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Reverend Bob Willis will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society or to the American Cancer Society.
