Jimmy L. Davis

Jimmy L. Davis, 78, of Valdosta died on Thursday, June 15, 2017 just as he lived his life, at home surrounded by family members who adored him. For years, he bravely fought against an incurable disease.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Marilyn, and three children, Reggie Davis of Valdosta, CeCelia Jay (Chris) Graves of Hardeeville, South Carolina, and Rhonda (Steven) Crombie of Dublin, Georgia; six granddaughters: Sara (Brandon) Lilly, Jennifer Rehonic, Kimberly (Ben) Stanley, Katie and Ellie Crombie, and Baylie Davis; one grandson, Spencer Miller, one step-grandson, Brandon Graves, one great-granddaughter, Lacey Kay, and three great-grandsons, Rhett, Bryson, and Remington.
Mr. Davis was born on November 13, 1938 to the late W.R. and Eva Middleton Davis in Colquitt, Georgia, and was the big brother to Phil Davis who all preceded him in death. Mr. Davis graduated from Miller County High School, joined the United States Air Force, and married Marilyn McMickle in 1956. He served for over twenty years at bases in the United States, France, Newfoundland, the Philippines, and Germany. After retiring from the military, he graduated from Valdosta State University in 1981 with a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice. He served as the Director of Safety and Security at South Georgia Medical Center and went on to work for the Valdosta State University Police Department where he retired as well. Mr. Davis was a Charter Member of Crossroads Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a deacon.
Visitation will be held at Carson McLane Funeral Home on Saturday, June 17, 2017 beginning at 5pm with a funeral service following at 6pm in the Carson McLane Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ken Alford officiating. He will be buried at Andersonville National Cemetery following a private family service. In lieu of flowers, please donate in his honor to Bethany Hospice, or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
