Jimmy Chappell, 81, of Morven, died on Monday, February 24, 2014 at Langdale Hospice House following a lengthy illness. He was born on November 30, 1932 in Candor, North Carolina to the late Lacy and Esther McCaskill Chappell and has been a resident of Morven since 1960. He was a retired peach farmer and was a member of the Morven United Methodist Church. He loved the great outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Chappell was a former Mason who loved airplanes and was a huge WWII buff. He loved to tell stories to his family and friends and could spin the most grand and vivid tales. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will greatly be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lottie Chappell of Morven; two daughters and a son-in-law, Robin and Dennis Plymale of Morven and Cindy Chappell of Valdosta; grandchildren and their spouses, Stuart Chappell of Morven, Brandon and Melissa DeWitt of Barney, Lacey and Matt Carter of Morven, and Drew Martin of Barney; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Savanna, and Anna Kate Carter of Morven and Wyatt and Ginsie DeWitt of Barney; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mack and Thelma Chappell of Candor, North Carolina and Pat and Phylis Chappell of Barnwell, South Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services for Jimmy Chappell will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in the chapel of the Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira with Rev. Debbie Cone officiating. The burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Martin/McLane.
