Jimmy Bennett, Sr.

Jimmy Bennett, 82, of Echols County, GA, peacefully passed away at his residence on Sunday, December 8, 2024. He was born on March 14, 1942, in Odum, GA, to the late Gervis Bennett and Idell Byrd DeLoach. Jimmy married Betty Jane Bennett, his beloved wife of 61 years. He dedicated 42 years to the PCA Papermill in maintenance while cherishing his role as the family's official baby holder. Known for his kind and caring nature, Jimmy enjoyed collecting classic vehicles and engaging in hunting, fishing, and camping activities. His exceptional jellies and captivating storytelling will be fondly remembered by many. A faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Jimmy lived a fulfilling life, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. 

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Bennett, of 61 years; daughter, Dawn Hardy (Timothy), of Warner Robins, GA; sons, Jimmy Bennett and Jeff Bennett (Kathryn) of Fargo, GA; grandchildren, Alison Cali (Joseph) of Merrimack, NH, Kaitlyn Hardy of Tifton, GA, Ashley Raulerson (Hampton) of Fitzgerald, GA, Tommy Bennett of Statenville, GA, Raven Bennett of Valdosta, Taylor Bennett and Riley Bennett of Fargo, GA; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Wise of Statenville, GA; brother, Harry “Hanky” Bennett (Faye) of Lake Park, GA; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents, sister Margaret Collier, and an infant brother. 

A funeral service honoring Mr. Bennett will be conducted at 11am on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the chapel of McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park, officiated by Reverend Wayne Boykin. Following the service, burial will take place at Statenville Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects before the service from 10-11am.
