Jim William Sherley, 64, of Ray City died Friday, January 14, 2022 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Quitman on December 15, 1957 to the late JW and Ida Pauline Oliver Sherley. Mr. Sherley was a Christian and retired technician with AgPro in Dixie, GA. He loved God, family time especially at the holidays. Jim was an avid fan who loved watching the Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves and Nascar. He was an outgoing, kind hearted man who was genuine and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of thirty years, Diane Sherley of Ray City; two sons and a daughter in law, Joe Alting of Valdosta, Gene and Rhonda Strawder of Waycross; his daughter and son in law, Penny and Donnie Giddens of Ray City; his grandchildren, Nikki and Tommy Bagley, Sara and Trevor Spradley, Abbie and Tyler Nelson, Andrew Alting, Caroline Alting; his sisters and brothers in law, RosaLee Weaver of Quitman, Kadelia (Dinky) and Jimmy Brinson of Valdosta, Elithariner Brooks of Quitman, Norma Fay and Mike Beaty of Pavo; brother and sisters in law, Tom and Carol Sherley, Carol (Tim) Sherley all of Quitman; sisters in laws and brothers in law, Terry and Levern Hayes of Dillion, SC, Roger and Carol English of Ray City, Carol and Donald Swilley of Valdosta. He is preceded in death by his brother, Tim Sherley, sister and brothers in law, LaRue and Greg Hayes, Buddy Brooks.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 10am in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home with Revered Wayne Hughes officiating. Burial to follow in Beaver Dam Cemetery in Ray City. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
