Jim North, 73, of Valdosta died on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Holly Hill Nursing Home. He was born on September 6, 1943 in Pineville, Kentucky and was the son of the late Howard and Frances Kearns North. Jim was a retired Senior Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force. Jim served during and in Viet Nam and later retired as the Legal Services Superintendent with the Judge Advocate General's office. Jim loved to travel and was an adventurer at heart and maintained his ornery sense of humor throughout his life. He loved sampling different foods from his travels but Italian was his favorite. His family and his country were the most important things in life to him and he continued to maintained high moral standards in everything he did. Jim was engaging, impatient, polite, stubborn, generous, kind-hearted, and sometimes cranky. He made friends whether on the job or on the porch. He was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include his wife, Edith North of Valdosta; a son and daughter-in-law, James P. II and Kelly North of Valdosta; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Patty North of Chillicothe, Ohio; two sisters, Mary Bates of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Eileen and Steve Sinclair of Powell, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Benjamin Kearns and his biological mother, Mary Alsman.
Services for Jim North will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Chaplain Jimmy Jones officiating. The burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
