Jewell D. Courson, 86, of Valdosta, died at home after a very short illness on Sunday, May 4, 2008. Born on May 27, 1921 in Lowndes County, she was the daughter of the late J. Calvin and Betty Timmerman Dasher. Mrs. Courson worked at the Strickland Mills for many years. She loved to work in her yard and go fishing with her family. She was a faithful Christian and member of her church, Forrest Park Church of Christ, and greatly loved and cared for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lawanna and Bob Batten of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Leo C. and Marlene Courson of Savannah; stepson, Darryl Courson of Atlanta; grandchildren, Daniel Batten, Jessica Courson, Aleisa Courson, all of Valdosta; great granddaughter, Aaliyah Burgess of Valdosta and sister, Loette Perry of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Courson was preceded in death by her husband, Leo C. Courson, Sr.; twin sister, Jessie Dasher Shaw; sisters, Claudia Dasher Folsom, Eula Lee Dasher Simpson, Grace Dasher Waller and her brothers, L.C. Dasher, J.C. Dasher and Olen Dasher.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. Bill Ward and Mr. Bob Rowell officiating. Burial will follow at Welcome Hill Cemetery in Quitman. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
