Jewel Parker Clanton, 90, of Lakeland, died suddenly on Sunday, January 14, 2007 after a period of declining health. Mrs. Clanton was born in Hahira on July 29, 1916 to the late Lindsay P. & Mary Zennia Parker. She had been a lifelong resident of this area. Mrs. Parker was retired from the Lowndes County Board of Education, was an avid quilter and was a member of Pineview Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Clanton of Statham; two daughters and a son in law, Sandra Pate of Rex and Sharon & James Stephens of Lakeland; four grandchildren and their spouses, Ginger & Billy Jackson of Naylor, Teresa & John Raines of Covington, Wayne & Christy Stecker of Burleson, TX, and Matthew Hart of Warner Robins. Also surviving are eight great grandchildren, Hunter Jackson of Naylor, Tristan, Madison, Brenton & Caelon Stecker, all of Burleson, TX, and Chelsea, Chase & Emma Raines, all of Covington; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Vonnie H. Clanton, two sisters and five brothers.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Clanton will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira. Rev. Terry Sellers will officiate. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Hahira.
