On July 13th, 2013, at 6:30 a.m., Jessica (Jess) Godwin Capps, 31, of Baconton and formerly of Valdosta, was greeted at the gates of Heaven by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, after a courageous battle with heart failure. Jess was a 1999 graduate of Lowndes High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from Valdosta State University. She was a member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church in Albany.
Jess is survived by her husband: Clay Capps of Baconton, her parents: Greg and Tammy Godwin of Hahira, her parents in law: Michael and Vickie Capps of Baconton, a brother: Matt and Jessica Godwin of Dublin, a sister: Brit and Matt Gay of Valdosta, niece and nephew: Chloe Gay, Landon Godwin, grandparents: Barbara Gregory of Screven, Pat Godwin of Valdosta, Olin Godwin of Hahira, Peggy Buchan of Waynesville, Hilda Capps of Baconton, Mary and BJ Bruce of Rochelle, her much loved companions: Maverick and Bonnie, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfather: Dan Buchan of St. Simons Island.
On December 27th, 2011, two years after heart failure, Jess received the gift of a donor heart from Adrian and was truly grateful. After tremendous complications Jess was discharged from Emory University Hospital on June 26th, 2012 and returned home with her husband to Baconton. Her battle continued at home until Saturday morning when she received a perfect heart in a perfect body with ten toes, a working left hand and kidneys, and no further need for corrective shoes. Jess now lives in that body for a perfect time with a perfect God.
We are truly proud to call Jess wife, daughter, sister, aunt, daughter in law, granddaughter, niece and friend. Her engaging personality, contagious smile, and encouraging faith will truly be missed. Yet our memories together will always be cherished.
Services in celebration of the life of Jessica (Jess) Godwin Capps will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at eleven a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
