JESSE DONALD “DON” O’QUINN

JESSE DONALD “DON” O’QUINN, 74, of Valdosta died Monday, July 25, 2005. He was born in Cook County on May 31, 1931 to the late Mallie J. and Mae Blanton O’Quinn and had lived in Jacksonville, Florida before returning to Valdosta eighteen years ago. Mr. O’Quinn was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired Civil Service from the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville. He was a member of the Northside Baptist Church where he had served as Deacon, had received his doctorate degree in ministry from the Luther Rice Seminary and had served as interim minister for churches in the Valdosta Baptist Association and South Georgia and North Florida. Mr. O’Quinn owned and operated Don’s Barber Shop on Ashley Street for many years and was the program chairman of the NARFE Local Chapter #1044.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy O’Quinn of Valdosta, one son and daughter in law, Scott and Kaci O’Quinn of Valdosta, two grandchildren, Connor O’Quinn and Kaylee O’Quinn both of Valdosta, sister and brother in law, Betty and Jake Willis of Valdosta, one brother, George R. O’Quinn of Fitzgerald, sisters in law and a brother in law, Ruby O’Quinn of Valdosta, Clarice Apolski of Valdosta and Charles and Hazel Jefferson of Jacksonville, Fla., several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, M. J. and Mae O’Quinn and a brother, M. B. O’Quinn.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Thursday, July 28, 2005 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Stevens and Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7-9pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Northside Baptist Church Building Fund.
