Jerry Warren Meadows, Jr.

June 30, 1947 — February 23, 2008

Jerry Warren Meadows, Jr., 60, of Valdosta, died Saturday, February 23, 2008 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born on June 30, 1947 in Thomasville to the late Jerry Warren Meadows, Sr. and Emily Goddard Meadows. Mr. Meadows opened and operated Dosta Sports Shop in 1973. He was an army veteran and served in Vietnam. Mr. Meadows was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He graduated from Valdosta High School in 1965 then attended Valdosta State College where he pursued a degree in accounting. Mr. Meadows was a past member of the administrative board for First United Methodist Church. He was a former councilman for the City of Dasher. Mr. Meadows loved God, family, friends, work, bass fishing and refinishing furniture. He was known as "Brother" to many people. His faith, prayer and determination sustained him throughout his life. After closing Dosta Sports Shop he sold sporting goods to high schools and colleges in the south Georgia and north Florida area where many students know him as "Mr. Jerry"and "The Jacket Man."

He is survived by his wife, with whom he would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in March, Kaye Meadows of Valdosta, one son and daughter in law, Chad and Marci Meadows of Moultrie, one daughter, Georgianna Meadows of Valdosta, two grandchildren, Brian Meadows and MaKaye Meadows of Moultrie, one sister and brother in law, Carolyn and Dale Williams of Waycross, uncle, Carl Meadows of Valdosta, nephew, Todd Williams of Atlanta, niece, Traci Williams of Waycross, aunt, Doris Arnold of Jacksonville, FL, special Jack Russell companion, J. B. Mr. Meadows is preceded in death by his infant son, Patrick Bryan Meadows and parents in law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Linder.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at four p. m. in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev.Tomas Mason, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from six until eight p. m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Pearlman Cancer Center or to Hospice of South Georgia.
