Jerry Thornton, 71, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020 at his home in the arms of his son, surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mr. Thornton, son of the late RJ and Idona Thornton was a lifelong resident of Echols County. He enjoyed working with his hands with mechanics and woodwork. He also enjoyed playing his guitar and singing gospel songs. He was a lifelong logger and lawn care worker.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda; son, Richard; daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Carter (Paul) and Sharon Rodriguez (Pedro); grandchildren, Emily Carter, Jacob Carter, Gabby Rodriguez, and lil Pete Rodriguez; sisters Dona Mae Crosby,and Edna (Don) Carter; brother Keith (Jackie) Thornton; sister Carolyn (Jim) Harnage; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Thornton is preceded in death by his parents, RJ and Idona Thornton, his mother and father-in-law, Leonard and Blanche Thornton, and two brothers in law Wilson Crosby, and Leonard Thornton, Jr.
Services for Mr. Thornton will be held at Sardis Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at 11am with Brother Edgar Wood and Brother Andy Schiltz officiating. Burial will follow at Carter Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday beginning at 3pm at the address of 769 Sardis Church Road, Lake Park, GA, 31636.
