Jerry Lyndon DeMott, Sr., 78, of Valdosta, passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. He was born in Bay, Georgia on July 14, 1940 to Roscoe Golden DeMott and Cobbie Alene Melton DeMott. He graduated from Moultrie High School in 1958. He then attended and graduated from Valdosta State College in 1962. During college he was an active member to Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Starting in college and extending several years past, Jerry served in the US Army National Guard. Following college, he served his community as Vice President of Valdosta Federal Savings and Loan for 31 years. He then worked as Vice President of First Federal Savings and Loan for an additional 15 years until his much deserved retirement in December of 2008.
Jerry married his high school sweetheart, the former Judy Butler on June 24th 1962. They later went on to have three children that filled his heart with joy. Family was of the utmost importance to Jerry only to be superseded by his love for Jesus Christ. Jerry was a long term member of Christ Episcopal Church, Valdosta for 56 years until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Judy DeMott, his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Amy DeMott of Orlando, Fl, daughter and son-in-law Nikki and Bobby Yarbrough of Valdosta; Five grandchildren, Dylan DeMott and wife Cheyenne, Taylor DeMott, Sarah DeMott, Maddie Yarbrough and Blake Yarbrough, one brother and sister-in-law Jimmie and Ann DeMott, sister-in-law Betty DeMott and multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Jay DeMott, two brothers Don DeMott and Bo DeMott, sisters Peggy DeMott and Eleanor DeMott Carter, sister and brother-in-law Emily and W.C. (Red) Jordan.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 3:00 pm at Christ Episcopal Church, Valdosta with inurnment to immediately follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family would like to extend an invitation to Jerry’s family and friends after the service for a Celebration of His Life at his home.
