He became a successful Procurement Forester and was recruited in 1988 by the Langdale Company for procurement of timber for the new Langboard Mill near Quitman, Georgia. He was very successful in this position for 15 years. His recent years were spent as a purchasing agent for Brooks Welding of Valdosta. The Fishers have one son, Gabe, and two grandsons, Ty and Luke, all of Valdosta. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Valdosta, and especially liked working in First Baptist's large and productive Food Ministry. Jerry enjoyed many hunting trips in younger days, and he and Sherry and Gabe have had wonderful international trips. He was an avid Civil War scholar and collected many authentic relics. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and Christian.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry, son, Gabe, and grandsons, Ty and Luke, all of Valdosta. He is also survived by his mother, Louise, and brother and a sister in law, Jim and Ernestine both of Butler, Missouri. He was preceded in death by a baby brother, Jackie, and his father, Billy.
